Our Test Method

Standardized soil loads: baked egg on a ceramic ramekin (hardest common soil), oatmeal residue, milk film on glasses, and tomato sauce on plates. Each pod brand was tested 15 times across multiple dishwasher models and water hardness levels. Evaluated by visual inspection and by measuring residue with a spectrophotometer.

Results

Best eco: Blueland Dishwasher Tablets ($0.15/use)
Phosphate-free, plant-based surfactants. Cleaning performance: 89% of Cascade Pods on baked egg. Residue rate: 12% (vs Cascade's 8%). Significantly better than other eco brands we tested. Dissolves completely in cold water โ€” works in any dishwasher.

Best overall: Cascade Platinum Plus ($0.20/use)
The reference standard. 97% removal of baked egg across all water hardness levels. If eco claims are a priority, Blueland is close. If cleaning is the priority, Cascade remains the benchmark.
